Caring for Your Human Hair Extensions

Here's how to keep your human hair extensions in tip-top shape!

Your new long hair will take some getting used to, but with the proper aftercare routine, they will look beautiful until they are removed (after 3 months).

DO

* Brush hair gently with your extension brush before washing the hair

* Wash your hair every 2 - 3 days (instead of everyday).
Concentrate first on the nape of the neck.  And rinse well, for at least 90 seconds.

* I recommend professional hair products,  or products especially made for hair extensions.
(I've heard Pantene works good too, but I've never tried it on my extensions.)

* Use a leave-in conditioner, avoiding the bonds

* Sleep on a satin covered pillow if possible (helps prevent tangles)

* Tie your hair up on top of your head in a scrunchie for bedtime (or a braid, or a scarf)

* Wear a cap in chlorine pools (chlorine is very drying, makes your hair tangle, and can make blondes look green!)

* Saturate hair with conditioner before entering the ocean (sun and salt water is very drying and can make the hair mat and tangle)

* Wear a hat in the sun, or at least, tie up your hair

DON'T

* Keep the extensions in for more than 3 months (bonds may become visible, and matting can occur)

* Wash your hair everyday

* Overdo it on the conditioner (too much conditioning can actually cause build up and tangles!)

* Overdo it on the products

* Color, perm or relax your hair extensions

* Wash your hair with your head upside down (washing in the shower is best - keep your head up)

* Wash/style your hair with cheap products

* Brush your hair when wet

* Get your curling iron/straightening iron on the bonds; it can melt them

* Blow dry your hair everyday - try letting your hair dry naturally!

Heat is hair's enemy (use a protective heat spray to help prevent heat damage.)
