About Remy Human Hair

You may have heard various industry terms regarding the quality of human hair.

'Remi, Remy, European, Indian, Russian, cuticle intact'

It's enough to make you want to pull your own hair out!

I use quality Remy human hair from both India and Europe for my extensions - depending on the texture and coarseness required.

The most common human hair gathered for extensions is:

* Indian (good overall -  for most hair types)
* European (cuticle is smaller in diameter - for fine hair types)
* Asian (cuticle is larger in diameter - more for coarser hair types, but there is some good Asian hair out there now)

Non-Remy Hair Remy/Remi Cuticle Hair Virgin/Raw Hair
Other Names: Fallen and Brushed

This is the
worst hair for extensions.

* Collected from hair brushes and the floor

* Much less expensive because it is in great supply

* Roots and ends are mixed up so the hair cuticles are in different directions -  hair goes through an acid bath to remove the cuticle (very tough on the hair!!)

Then the hair is dipped in grape seed oil or silicone to make it shiny and to add weight to the hair (hair is sold by weight) So at first, the hair seems great, but after you wash it a few times, the silicone washes out and the hair tangles and mattes very easily.

Obviously, this kind of hair should not be used for hair extensions. It is best for wigs and toupees that are dry cleaned.

This hair is usually of Asian decent so has a thicker, round cuticle. (but you can find higher quality dark hair of Asian decent than light hair, as it suffers less processing.)
Most popular hair for good quality extensions.

Best
middle ground hair.

The term Remy or Remi actually originates from Indian women who donate their hair to their temple after they are married - or because they are grateful for certain blessings in their life.

Today, it means that the hair was taken off in ponytail so that all the hair is lying in one direction, and the hair's cuticle is intact.
(The cuticle protects against water loss. We alter it when we bleach, dye, condition, or heat style the hair.)

Real Remy hair is silky and manageable. Most Remy has been chemically altered somewhat to get it in lighter colors like blondes, reds etc. (have you ever seen woman from India born blonde?)

The textures of this hair are natural: some hair is straight and some is wavy.

Please note that some suppliers who use Asian hair may pass it off as “Indian” or “European”.

But Asian hair is thicker in diameter and requires an acid bath to make it thinner, so it is not as good, while European hair is thin in diameter.

That's why  Indian hair is the perfect middle ground.
This is the best hair - Expensive, in short supply, and limited colors.

The hair has not been chemically altered in any way. It is in their original colors and textures which are limited to mostly natural browns and natural dark blonde.

Grown in areas near the Artic Circle for generations, often by Russian and Polish families to be cut and sold.

There are different grades like A being that of a young child’s with little environmental damage, or D being hair from an older person with a little more coarseness to the hair caused by age and environment.

Many companies claim they sell European raw virgin hair, but are lying. You can tell who’s real by their website – virgin hair collection is specialized.

*** There are no regulations in the hair distribution industry, so people like me who sell hair extensions, need to test different hair suppliers and find the best one.

For example, some suppliers refer to their hair as European Quality Hair.  This is not actually European hair, but the best grades of Asian, Pakistani and Indian hair. The cuticle is stripped slightly down so that it resembles the feel of a European cuticle strand.

Don't be mislead!
